Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Sucks
I'll say it again, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Sucks!
Our nephew Danny was diagnosed with Duchenne when he was 3.
He died last July, shortly after he turned 16.
The disease affects approximately 1 in every 3,500 boys (because the Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome, it primarily affects boys; however, it occurs across all races and cultures).
It progressively weakens all of their muscles.
At age of 7, they typically lose their ability to walk.
In their early teens, they lose the ability to move their arms.
By their late teens, they are most likely unable to move anything.
By their mid-twenties, their heart and lungs fail.
The mortality rate is 100%
Danny now runs with us in spirit.
At Disney World this coming January, I am running the Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon on consecutive days), Henry is running the 10k and the 5k, and Claire is running the Mickey Mile, all to raise money for Duchenne research so that we can find a cure.
Please give what you can to help us stop this disease from taking any more children from their families.
