Team Corey
Here we go again!
Last year to run the half marathon was such an amazing experience and to see so much support from my friends and family was so uplifting.
This year I have decided to run with the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. PPMD is so close to my families heart becuase they deal with Duchenne's directly. Any money that goes to them helps Corey and so many other boys with the same disease. I created Team Corey in support of my brother. Let me tell you why I run…Corey was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was just 3 years old. Duchenne is a muscle degenerative disease found mainly in boys. It affects the overall quality of life and right now there is no cure. Our family has lived with this truth for 18 years… everyday we wait and hope to hear positive news, that clinical trials and cures are in the works. Because if you have the opportunity to really get to know my brother, it gives you a reason to hope and to fight. To see a man (turning 22 in a few short months) working hard day in and day out following his dreams in landscape architecture, living in the moment no matter what adversity is thrown his way. To know my brother is to know what overcoming obstacles really looks like. To know my brother is to know who I really am. My brother has shaped who I am. He has shown me what it really means to be there for someone besides myself. He has shown me how to overcome obstacles. He has shown me what it means to give. He has shown me how to be thankful for the things most people don’t think to be thankful for. What a blessing it is to walk, to run… That’s why I do it. I run for him, I walk for him, in hopes that one day he will be running and walking alongside of me. I run for a cure, I run for the hope that me and my family have that everything will be okay. I run to create awareness for this incurable disease. If you know my family you know our strength. What gives us more strength is all of you behind us, fighting with us to find a cure. So please if you can find it in your hearts to donate (even if it’s just a dollar) to this amazing cause, you will give us even more hope that we can find this cure. That Corey can one day run beside me… Now that’s my goal, the money is just the catalyst to achieve this goal. So please donate! Thank you all so much in advance!
