Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If you don’t see an answer to your question, call our office at 201.250.8440 or email us at info@runforoursons.org.

Q: What is Run For Our Sons?

A: Run For Our Sons is the endurance fundraising program of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy. We provide runners at all levels with entry into racing events across the country in exchange for their fundraising efforts in the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Since 2005, Run For Our Sons has raised nearly $10 million from these events.

Q : As a sponsored runner, am I guaranteed entry into this race?

A: Yes. By registering as a member of the Run For Our Sons team for this race AND meeting the required fundraising minimum, you are guaranteed entry into the race.

Q: How can I keep track of my fundraising?

A: We've made it easy for you to keep track of fundraising, through the creation of a personal fundraising page.

Q: How do I log into My Participant Center?

A: Go to http://www.runforoursons.org and sign in at the top of the page using your username and password that you created when you registered.

Q: What is an offline gift?

A: Offline gifts are donations we receive in the mail, via overnight carrier, or in person at an event. These are not donations received online.

Q: Where do I send checks?

A: When mailing in checks make sure your name and the name of the race in which you’re participating are included so we can give you credit! Please send checks to:

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy
401 Hackensack Ave - 9th Floor
Hackensack, NJ 07601

Q: What do I do with cash?

A: Please convert cash into a check before mailing to our office. Please indicate on the check that it represents cash donations so that we know not to receipt the person who issued the check. If you want receipts sent out to someone who gave you a cash donation, make sure you include the name and mailing address of the donor(s).

Q: How do I know if an offline gift has been made in support of my efforts?

A: The office staff will add the offline gifts to your personal fundraising page.  Check your page regularly to see new donations added! If there is ever a question about an offline donation, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@runforoursons.org. Following the race you will receive a report of all offline donations received on your behalf.

Q: I’ve never fundraised before; how do I ensure that I meet my fundraising requirement?

A: We provide you with a personal fundraising page, sample emails and letters, fundraising tips, and ongoing staff support to make sure you meet your goal. Once they get started, most of our runners find it’s easier than they thought to meet and exceed their goal!

Q: Can I fundraise as part of a team?

A: Yes! Many of our runners form teams and fundraise together – it’s fun and helps to motivate team members! Teams that fundraise together are responsible for the combined fundraising minimums of each member of the team (for example if a team has 5 members and the fundraising minimum is $1,000 per person, the team must collectively raise $5,000).

Q: What happens if I don’t reach my fundraising minimum?

A: We are so excited to have you on our team and we want to provide you with every possible fundraising tool to help you meet the minimums we have set for each event. However, if you do not reach your minimum, we will have to pull your bib from the race and you will not be able to participate in the marathon. Before a teammate reaches this point, we do our best to contact the runner and see what challenges they are running into with their fundraising. Sometimes it becomes easier for runner to make a personal donation to their page to remedy the situation.  This allows the runner to still participate in the race. As much as we don’t like to have to enforce these rules, we are obligated to do so in order to maintain our outstanding ratings with charity watchdog organizations and to continue to participate in some of the country’s most elite and prestigious endurance events. So please call on our staff – we are here to help!

Q : I'd like to get my company to sponsor my race. Do you have any corporate sponsorship programs?

A: We do! Please click the link for our Corporate Sponsorship page to find out more or download the Corporate Sponsorship packet.

Q:  I've never run a marathon before, and I'm not sure of my abilities. Is there information out there to help me to prepare?

A: Absolutely. Whether you are a novice or an experienced runner, our Tips For Runners page will help you to find out about training at your level.
